Who are we?

We are Bambi Forest School

Play Video
Lovingly owned and operated by a dedicated Early Childhood Teacher/Forest School Leader (the crazy lady in the Akubra, Amanda Munro, ‘preferred name is ‘Mandy’ or as our children say, “Miss Amandy” (I like that too!)  and an inspiring team of extraordinary ‘Children’s Advocates’ with such incredibly diverse backgrounds and experiences, blessed to have cultivated our ‘Bambi-fam’.

Progressive approach, a truly Yin and Yang philosophy drawing on Montessori and Steiner. Providing the perfect balance of structure/intentional teaching experiences and time to disconnect to ‘reconnect’ with nature and self.

Wellbeing and mindfulness are naturally integrated holistically. Our hope is to ignite a love of exploring, discovering, researching and connecting.
Nestled on over 2 acres of green space, literally where the forest meets the sea, just 200 metres to beautiful Lake Cathie. Honoured to share the journey on Birpai Country.

Our name may seem obvious: the beautiful fawn, a provocative literary classic brought to life by Disney’s film adaptation of the same name.

The Bambi Forest School name AND philosophy has drawn from many sources of inspiration with over 20 years of RESEARCH across the globe, drawing from many sources of inspiration.

Household name ‘Bambi’ – a controversial book of it’s time, shaking up the core of humanity, but more innocently portrayed and adapted by Disney, the first Disney film to tackle conservation.

Bambi – is Italian for ‘child’, a nod to my Montessori roots (20 years worth!) – we carry on with a beautiful prepared home-like environment and community-enhancing activities

Bambi, last but not least, is acknowledgment of the beautiful local language, Gathang. In Gathang language (of the Birpai People), Bambi is:
– baby fire or kindling (noun)
– to ignite a fire (verb)
(I discovered this on my first day of fire training – I’m a believer in signs).
